Stew base mix. Kare-kare is a Philippine stew complemented with a thick savory peanut sauce.
Basically Kare-Kare minus the peanuts, giving the flexibility of adding the desired amount of peanuts or peanut butter.
Ingredients: Rice flour and spices 16% (garlic powder, onion powder and achuete powder-cornstarch mix)
Store in a cool, dry place.
Stew base (Kare-Kare) recipe (Makes 8/10 servings)
1 pouch (50gr) Mama Sita´s Stew Base Pang Kare-Kare mix
1 Kg of oxtail cut about 4 cm
10 cups (2.5 l) of water
12 pieces (200 g) green beans in 5 cm pieces
200 gr eggplant cut into strips
130 g peanut butter
200 g Chinese cabbage
Prawn pasta (bagoomg)
- Boil oxtail in the wáter. Lower the heat until the meat is very tender, adding water as needed, leaving about 750 ml of broth
- Increase the heat, add the eggplant and green beans. Cook 2 minutes
- In a bowl combine Mama Sita´s Stew Base Pang Kare-Kare mix, peanut butter and 1 cup (250ml) of broth. Mix till smooth.
- Add the mixture into the simmering, continue cooking until the sauce thickens. Add the Chinese cabbage and cook for 3 minutes. Add salt to taste.
Serve hot with rice and bagoong (sauteed shrimp paste)
